Training: Omega Weapon
If you were to look up the defenition of Omega, it means Z. As in, the end. This is a really fitting name for this monster,
because after you've killed it you've pretty much killed EVERYTHING (and you won't know what to do with yourself!).
Omega Weapon is harder than Ultimecia and harder than Ultima Weapon, and even ingame is called "the toughest monster
in the world." So.. I wrote a walkthrough! For people who either didn't have the FF8 strategy guide, or if you're like me and thought the guide's
Omega Weapion strategy sucked. :P
Don't believe me? I'm really not making this up. ¬¬; There is an Omega Weapon in FF8! Walk to
the chapel in Ultimecia's Castle, and standing in front of the organ, there it'll be. Yeah, that's right!
The biggest, baddest, harddest monster in the game is a swirling ball of crap. ¬¬ Don't underestimate it.
Unlike in FFX, *dies* (>P) beating Omega Weapon is really, really really hard. *_* There are lots of ways you can go about it
though, aside from what I have here, so don't think I'm telling you exactly what to do as if if it's the only thing you can do. ^^
Besides, there are so many factors in this battle depending on your characters and their stats and your game that if I say
something that really doesn't fit with your characters, then don't do it! There's no way I could tell you exactly what to do and
it'd work for everyone, so.. I'm just telling you what worked for me that you could try.
And after you fight this thing for the first time, it may seem impossible. It took me about two weeks from the first time I fought
it to when I killed it, of fighting it and slowly developing a strategy that worked for me. That's pretty much what you have to
do.. Trial and error, trail and error, over and over to find out what you need to do. *cough* Allright, I'm sick of lecturing now.
>:P After reading this I hope you get something out of it, or at least decide to try to fight Omega Weapon. It's not impossible,
I promise. ^_~
Battle Preparations
When choosing your party, it's not so important as to what characters you use but to what they do. Choose one character to
be your main magic caster (referred to by me as simply "caster".. FYI, mine was Rinoa, because her Mag stat was at 113 ^^)
and set all characters up so that they can heal each other. You'll find that characters which usually only attack will now also
have to heal too (because maybe your general healer can't at some time when you need to) and those who usually only
heal will also have to attack. Every character heals and attacks and everyone's multipurposed. Even if they're not all that
strong have them do it anyway, 'cause every little bit counts, right?
If you have Recover, Revive, Auto-Haste, or Auto-Protect, for the love of God, USE THEM! ^_^ Why all of this is important
should just go without saying. ^^
The only really important GF to use in this fight is Doomtrain, because it weakens Omega Weapon so that your Limit Breaks
hit for more. GF Eden is also nice to use, but it's not necessary.
Megalixers, Mega Phoenixes, Holy Wars, Holy War Trials, Heroes, and Hero Trials are godlike. Move them to the front of
your item inventory and use 'em like crazy! If you killed Bahamut/Ultima Weapon, one of them gives you 100 Megalixers -
and NOW is the time to use them. If you ran out, refine some more from the Bahamut card. Healing all of your characters
fully at once is REALLY IMPORTANT in this fight. If you don't have any Megalixers or Mega Phoenixes, you could consider
casting Triple on everyone in your party (or sumoning Cerberus) so that they could all heal with magic (Curaga and Full-life)
when necessary. Because quite frankly I'm not sure if you could survive this fight without being able to heal your whole party
at once. >_<;
Move all of your Double/Triple, Aura, Haste, Protect, and Shell to the beginning of your caster's inventory (what I actually
did was have one character cast Double on the main caster, and the main caster would be able to immediately start buffing
the rest of the party with spells).
At the beginning of the fight, casting triple or double on a character and then using that person to cast Haste, Protect, Regen,
Shell, Aura, or any other spells you want on the whole group is immensely helpful! >.< If you don't have any forms of
invincibility available to you, it's VERY important to cast protect on all your characters to guard against Terra Break (Omega's
ultimate attack). Haste is reallyyyy helpful in this fight, because otherwise you might not have time to heal between Omega
Weapon's attacks (and trust me, this thing hits hard and fast). Aura allows characters to use limit breaks even with full hit
points, and since limit breaks are the best way to attack Omega Weapon (because they hit for more than GFs or Magic)
casting it on all of your characters is kinda... Important. ^_^; My main party was Zell, Squall, and Rinoa, and I'd cast Aura on
all three of them and when they didn't have anything else to do just use limit breaks. Shell and Regen are nice to have, but
if you find that it takes to much time to cast and recast these spells after characters die, just leave them out. Aura, Protect,
and Haste are the most important spells you'll need.
When junctioning characters for the fight, focus on improving Str, Spd, and Spr (the three S's! :D). Make sure that all of your
characters have their max number of hit points - 9999 - and each have 100% protection against Death Status. Omega is weak
against Ice and absorbs Fire, so if you want you can alter your Elemental Attack to fit. If you have any Enc-None/Half or
Bonus abilities equipped, change them to something else that improve's your statistifcs before the fight.
If you can get all three of your characters their final weapons, it's really nice to do so. All three of them are going to use their
limit breaks, and it helps when they hit for more.
I think that's about it for preparation. Whew. ^_^ You're halfway there!
Luring Omega Weapon out
Allright, allright, so Omega Weapon isn't actually that ball of swirling crap in Ultimecia's Castle's chapel. I lied, sue me :P ;)
I guess Omega Weapon just.. Lives in the swirling ball of crap. And you have to lure him out before you fight him - a process
which takes, oh, five minutes or so. :P
Because my guess is that you'll be fighting Omega Weapon a number of times, and because it's irritating to have to run for
ten minutes between each time you fight because you saved at the front door or in the "Master Room" (O_x;;), the best place
to save is at the foot of the Clock Tower. From the front door, that's through the door on the left, down the hall, through the
door in the middle, to the Chapel and up the staircase, in case you, uh, forgot. ^^; The save point is invisible, so you have to
equip Siren's Move-Find ability (although make sure you change that to something else before the fight. The best thing to do
is equip it, walk to the save point and pull up the main menu, change the ability, and then save before quitting the menu). To
summon out Omega Weapon from it's swirling poo vortex, walk back out from
the Chapel to the switch point at the fountain, and swap over to your other party. From the front hall, head to the door on the
top floor on the right. In the next room, after walking down the staircase you'll see a bell, and another switch point. After
ringing the bell you have a little less than a minute to get your other party into the Chapel, so swap to the main party using the
switch point and then run into the Chapel where Omega Weapon will be waiting. All you have to do is run into it to initiate
combat. What I did was enter the castle with the party I wasn't going to be fighting Omega with, go to the room with the bell
and switch over to my main party who would go and save at the Clock Tower. That way I'd only have to run out to the fountain,
switch parties, ring the bell, switch parties again, and run back into the chapel. It reduces between battle headaches, I tell ya
:P Before I had to walk all the way down from the Clock Tower and it took about ten minutes between each battle. Ugh.
The Fight
Here's a little rundown on the attacks this fiend uses. ¬¬ It casts it's magic and attacks in a predictable cycle that
repeats itself over and over. (Or at least on my game it did..) In fact, if it didn't repeat it's cycle over and over and just cast
everything unpredictably, I don't think you could kill it. ¬¬ It's predictability is it's weakness.
Omega usually starts off the fight right away with a high level Death spell. If you have 100% Death protection, this shouldn't be
a problem (note that it DOES have to be exactly 100% for your characters not to get wiped out).
Moving on, next it casts Meteor. This spell isn't exactly strong (anymore.. ^^) but use a Megalixer or heal your entire party
immediately after.
And then we have - Megido Flame! You may remember this charming little attack of Mobile Type 8's, that reduces all of your
characters HP to 1. Except that since Omega is such a pain in the butt, it's spell is much more irritating because it hits for
exactly 9998 points of damage! >.< That's why it's so important to heal right after Meteor.. ¬¬
Omega then uses Gravija, an attack designed to take away a portion of your HP (so if you didn't heal after Megido Flame,
that's okay because it won't kill you). Just make sure you HEAL AFTER THIS ATTACK and that you've at least cast protect
on your entire party. If you have invincibility items, use them now! And if you have any GFs with low compatibilty you probably
won't be using for the rest of the fight, you can also summon them now for protection if you want. >_<
Every tough monster has it's own special killing attack, and Omega Weapon is no exception. Terra Break works a lot like
Meteor, except it hits more times and hits for a lot more frikkin damage. >_< After the awful, horrible damage has been done,
have your surviving characters heal themselves fully - this is pretty important, because next the bastard uses..
Ultima! O_x;; Revive whatever characters you need to revive, and then heal them. You have a pretty long time to do this
'cause for the next few turns Omega Weapon only uses physicals.
Then it'll use Light Pillar, a charming little attack that wipes out one of your characters. Revive them, heal them, and then
recast Protect, Haste, and Aura.
The cycle now starts over again with Meteor.
After Omega Weapon fighting a couple times, start forming your own routine, and work the kinks out. From what I've already
said here, the best thing I found to do is to cast triple or double on your magic caster at the beginning of the fight (now that I
think of it you could summon Cerberus also.. I just forget because all my character's compatibility with Cerberus sucked ¬¬),
and have them Protect, Haste and Aura all your characters while the other
members of your party are attacking or summoning GFs Doomtrain and Eden. Then all you have to worry about is healing
between limit breaks, and recasting the magic if anyone dies.
The fight itself on my game took about 30-45 minutes (maybe more, maybe less). That's a pretty long time considering
I only summoned GF once; and it was Doomtrain. O_o;; After successfully defeating this beast, a
spiffy new section appears in the Tutorial section under Information. That, a Three Stars, and some satisfaction are the only
rewards you get from this fight. But really! (It's an excuse to listen to that cheesy disco-resembling boss music one more time,
anyway. :P ;)) If you get stuck, you could always email me and I'll try my best to help you.. *^^*
And that's all. ¬¬
